Converting images for use in Schoolzine

Whilst the Schoolzine system recommends to use either JPG, GIF or PNG files for use in the Schoolzine Control Centre, we understand that you may have your staff or community submitting files from various sources which will also have various file types. We have provided a list below for some common types you encounter as well as the easiest methods for conversion prior to bringing into the Schoolzine Control Centre. 

NOTE: Whilst all care has been taken to check these sites being safe to use, Schoolzine doesn’t take any responsibility for issues arising by use of these sites by computer virus or other contamination and recommends that you ask for the files to be supplied to you in a JPG or PNG format.

HEIC Files

Apple devices will typically save their images as their own type of High Efficiency Image Format (HEIF) known as HEIC. HEIC files are a compressed image format that allows for high quality images, but a smaller size compared to JPG, however these files will need to be converted prior to being used in the Schoolzine Control Centre.

This can be converted to a JPG using an online converter such as the following:

If you have access to a mac there is also the option to convert the image files to a JPG without resorting to the online conversion using their ‘Preview’ app. A guide to this process is provided below:

ARW Files

Sony Cameras use a unique file type called ARW files a type of RAW file unique to SONY cameras, which like HEIC will need to be converted prior to being  brought into the Schoolzine Control Centre.

This can be converted to a JPG using an online converter such as the following:

RAW Files

RAW files

will need to be converted to a suitable format such as JPG prior to being brought into the Schoolzine Control Centre, and can be converted using an online converter such as the following:

CR2 Files

CR2 files

are a unique RAW file to Canon, will need to be converted to a suitable format such as JPG prior to being brought into the Schoolzine Control Centre, and can be converted using an online converter such as the following:

BMP Files

JFIF Files

JFIF files

is a variation of JPG files, but will need to be converted to a suitable format such as JPG prior to being brought into the Schoolzine Control Centre, and can be converted using an online converter such as the following:

TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) files

Image Names

It is important that you are naming your image file names with no special characters, or symbols such as &$#. This will allow for the most compatibility in the Schoolzine System as the inclusion of these characters can cause images and galleries to not display correctly.
